General Studio Guidelines

  • DO NOT TOUCH ANY WORK OTHER THAN WHAT IS ON YOUR BOARD. All shelves, including your work waiting to be fired is off limits. There has been a lot of breakage recently due to people picking up greenware improperly. It is not fair for me to have to tell people their pieces are broken because of other people’s carelessness.
  • If you moved someone else’s board, or open their plastic, please ensure everything gets wrapped up again properly.
  • Work that is trimmed must be labeled with your name. (After you’ve trimmed leave you work uncovered to dry so that it can go into the kiln- if you recover your work it will not be fired.)
  • Bags of clay can be purchased for $40. No clay from outside the studio is permitted.
  • Any work that breaks/cracks will not be fired.
  • Glazing is included in the course within class times. In the event that glazing is not done in class, you may attend a glazing workshop to glaze up to 6 pieces.
  • Absolutely no sanding is permitted in the studio. Sanding may be done outside, and you should wear a mask (bring your own :) )
  • Please be aware we may have dogs on premises, and use diffusers with essential oils. If you have any allergies please notify me prior to class.
  • PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH ANY WORK OTHER THAN WHAT IS ON YOUR BOARD. All shelves, including your work waiting to be fired is off limits. Items in the studio are breakable, always use two hands when picking up work.
  • When handling bisqueware, ensure there is no lotion or oils on your hands as this may prevent the glaze from adhering properly.
  • Items that have been rejected from firing will be placed on the TOP of the student kiln shelf. Your pieces will not be fired if they have cracked, or there is glaze too close or on the bottom. If you wipe the glaze away you may put your pieces back on the 'to be fired' shelf.
  • Pick up for any pieces can be done Monday- Thursday 6-630pm and during Drop-in Studio on Saturdays.
  • You are not permitted to enter into Celsia Floral Lmtd. space, for the duration of your class and open studios please remain in designated areas.
  • g ceramic & co. reserves the right to refuse service to person(s) who do not comply with studio guidelines.
  • Any person(s) who do not treat other person(s) with kindness and respect will be asked to leave the premises. Discrimination, hate speech, disrespectful behaviour is not permitted, no exceptions. You will not be reimbursed for any classes in the event that you are asked to leave the studio.
  • Tickets are non-refundable, if you are unable to attend please email ASAP to see if it is possible to have your tickets transferred.
  • Please note that g ceramic & co. is under no obligation to refund part, or all of class price if you can not, or do not attend.
  • Transfers are under sole discretion of g ceramic & co. If you are away, and unable to one a class for the duration of the course, you can drop into an opens studio session for free. Otherwise if it lines up, you are welcome to drop into another day if someone else is away. Please post in the Google Sheet the date you will be missing to coordinate ASAP. Please use this link.
  • Please be aware it is a cozy studio, and unfair to everyone else to arrive sick or ill, you may be asked to leave so as not to contaminate everyone else. The makeup policy is in place to protect you in the event you miss a class due to illness.

Open Studio

  • To register for Open Studios, please use this link.
  • Open Studios are self-directed and supervised. If you need help, or have forgotten how to throw I suggest you watch online videos, practise, and/or register for a one off class. Please do not come to the studio expecting Sarah or myself to teach you, this is our time to work as well.
  • Each person is allowed to automatically RSVP for ONE open studio per week. 24 hours prior to additional open studios that week, students are able to RSVP to second (or third/fourth) ones if there is space. This is to allow everyone a fair chance to create.
  • If you post that you are coming, you have until 24 hours prior to the Open Studio to cancel. If you cancel after that time you will be held responsible for your spot. If you are sick, the 24 hour cancellation policy still applies. Please ensure that you remove yourself prior to this deadline. The studio is run on an honour system, if I have to micro-manage RSVP’s and other guidelines costs of open studios and classes will be reconsidered.
  • If the event is full, there is a column on the side of the Open Studio schedule for waitlisted persons.
  • You are responsible for covering up your work. Your work will not be covered up for you. You are also responsible for drying out your work. You are welcome to pop into the studio during the week 6-630pm Monday-Thursday; 10-1030am Tuesday - Wednesday to adjust how you've wrapped your pieces to dry out your work.
  • You are able to leave your tools on your board, if you have your own.
  • Clean up is 20 minutes before the open studio is over. You need to manage your time, and if you need more time to clean up it is your responsibility to schedule it.
  • Your wheel should be cleaned into your bucket, and left on the table. All tools should be rinsed in the sink and put away. If you have trimmed, your area should be swept, and students must mop their wheel areas. If you have left clay stuck to the table please us to scraper and dispose of it in the recycling bucket. If your bag has left clay dust/debris on the floor please sweep it up.
  • Please keep your work to one board to allow space for everyone to have this opportunity.
  • Your boards must have your name AND the date of the open studio on it. Without BOTH your work will be thrown out. (Work made before last weekend without the date will be kept untill 3 weeks after you made it, as a courtesy window.)
  • Open Studio can be used as a replacement class, you must notify myself or Sarah (whomever is present) and record this on the Google Sheet.
  • No etransfers will be accepted
  • After the Open Studio your world should* be ready to trim the next week. It can probably be pushed to the next week. After your open studio, you have two weeks to come back and trim your work. Any boards that have dates older than their two week timing will be tossed.
  • If you are not attending an open studio for more than three weeks you must take your clay with you or it may be recycled.
  • Glazing is not included or permitted in Open Studio, unless you have received special permission from Gabrielle to do so.
  • g ceramic & co. and it's affiliates reserves the right to refuse service to person(s) who do not comply with studio guidelines. Any person(s) who do not treat other person(s) with kindness and respect will be asked to leave the premises.
